A Cape grysbok drive count was held on 16 April. Fifteen members of the public, 3 high school students, 6 CPUT students and 4 UNISA students assisted with the count. 22 Cape grysbok were counted, including 17 females, 3 males and 2 juveniles. The City’s fauna management committee recommended that Milnerton Racecourse can donate some of the grysbok to other reserves. This count is well up from our last count, which pegged the population at 12. Unfortunately, a few days after the count, a  female Cape grysbok was killed by groomsmen at the Stables. The animal died of shock after it was chased on the track with pitch forks, apparently because they wanted to catch it for food. The unfortunate incident was reported to CapeNature who came out to the site to issue a warning to the perpetrators. Pictures courtesy of Stephanie Kuhhirt.
